As a person committed to fasting most of my life, I have spent a good many years researching many of the new diets and fasts that come along. And I do that for a reason- I want fast, safe results. I am always on the lookout for a system that is better than the one I use. Or at the very least, I look for a system that I can alternate between. This brings me to the Eat Stop Eat fasting system. Fasts have been gaining in popularity in recent years partly because of celebrities mentioning fasts like the Lemonade Diet helping them lose weight. Intermittent Fasting is one of those diets that have gained in popularity.
What is Intermittent Fasting? It is a system of eating/fasting in which you alternate between eating for a few days and not eating (fasting) for one day. Hence the term Intermittent fasting (IF). Contrast this with most other fasts which require days of not eating.
I liked the Idea of Still Eating
Although I am quite satisfied with the health benefits I receive from fasting for days at a time, I was intrigued by the idea of eating more frequently (food is one of my weaknesses). I have a lot of friends who also say they need to fast but give up after a day or two. So Intermittent Fasting might be the way to go for people, like them, who want health benefits, weight loss and more energy, but can’t seem to endure a longer fast.
A lot of people have turned to Eat Stop Eat to primarily lose weight. That concerned me because most weight loss programs turn out- in the long run- to be counterproductive. People gain back the weight they lose, and in some cases even became heavier than when they started the diet. At the end of the day, I wanted a system that got results!
What My Research Found
So I did extensive research on IF, but I started at the end and worked backwards. I focused my research on results first before I even looked at the mechanics of the fast. I read every testimonial I could find. I looked at all the “independent” reviews and studies time permitted me to read. I was looking for adverse affects or health issues caused by the diet. I also investigated the claim that IF promoted long term weight loss.
In an article published on the Huffington Post, world renowned health Guru Dr. Andrew Weil cautioned that Children under 18, diabetics or women who are pregnant or lactating should not practice the diet. He went on to say, however, that the fast actually benefits others with certain ailments such as severe gastrointestinal reflux disease or GERD.
Dr Weil didn’t cite any other major health concerns. In fact he listed several benefits besides weight management the fast promotes. Some of those benefits are contributing to a decrease in cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes. Weil also said IF helps improve cognitive ability.
A New Relationship With Food
Despite the many documented health benefits of fasting- a few I mentioned above- most people looking into Intermittent Fasting are doing so for weight loss. I have to say that in this area, Eat Stop Eat shines. Obviously results vary from person to person but in general people reported long lasting weight loss and a new “relationship” with food.
For a good percentage of people following this system, they didn’t just lose weight but their whole mindset about food and eating changed. This is significant because it increases a person’s odds of enjoying long- term health benefits.
Contrast that to people who feel they must “starve” themselves to lose weight, only to stop the diet and go on a food binge.
My Recommendation and Why
I like the Eat Stop Eat system because the results are easily documented. It is based on sound medical research and it is easier for some to stick to. In a nut shell, Eat Stop Eat results are easily documented.
The book Eat Stop Eat was written by guy named Brad Pilon. Brad has been in the health industry for decades and is highly respected. He writes extensively about fasting and dieting. There are many books and video courses out there. Most of them refuse to give you a copy for free to review. That should be a warning to you.
